- 2000s-2010s: Introduction of LGTBIQ, adding queer identity.
- 2010s: Expansion to LGTBIQ+ to cover a greater diversity of identities.
LGTB Flag

The rainbow flag, symbolizing LGTBIQ+ pride, was first designed by artist and activist Gilbert Baker in 1978. Commissioned by Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S., the flag debuted at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade. The original design had eight colors, each representing a different aspect of the LGBTIQ+ community: pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic/art, blue for serenity, and violet for spirit. Over time, the flag was simplified to seven colors due to fabric availability, becoming a global symbol of LGBTIQ+ rights and diversity.
